[Interview] Kou Shibasaki
2023/11/15 (Wed)
I want to create a performance that feels like traveling through time and space of “present, past, and future.”
Kou Shibasaki, who celebrated his 25th anniversary in the entertainment industry in July this year, will release a monumental album ``ACTOR'S THE BEST ~Melodies of Screens~'' to conclude the anniversary year of his 20th anniversary since last year.
``I have been in the entertainment industry since 1998, and this year marks 25 years, so I am looking back on my past works, and I made my debut as a singer in 2002, and since last year I have been able to continue singing as I celebrated my 20th anniversary. I wanted to give form to what we have been able to do and what we have continued to do.”
In this work, she covers the theme songs and insert songs of movies such as ``Battle Royale'', dramas ``Orange Days'' and ``Dr. Koto Clinic'' in which she has appeared as an actor. In addition, theme songs and insert songs that he has sung are also included, such as RUI's ``Tsuki no Shizuku'' and the unit KOH+ with Masaharu Fukuyama, ``Saiai'' and ``Hitotsuboshi''. Up until now, she has felt like she has somehow separated her musical career, in which she sings her own thoughts in her own words, and her acting career, in which she fulfills the role she is given and sometimes sings as part of that role. But has there been any change in his state of mind?
``I felt that I shouldn't mix up things that are now treated as individuality within me.At the time, I guess it was because I thought that this could lead to strange preconceptions. I was also trying to find a way to feel comfortable between my work as an artist (singing) and my role as an actor.Currently, both of these things are merging within me and I'm starting to take on a new sense of value. That's what it feels like."
Of this work, which is the culmination of a cycle of video, music, play, and song, it is noteworthy that she wrote a book review for the book, which became a huge bestseller and sparked the "Sekatube boom" in the early 2000s. Will we cry out for love at the center of the world? As an actor, she played Ritsuko, Sakutaro's adult lover, in the movie version.
“At that time, Mr. Hirai sang the theme song for the movie ``Cry for Love in the Center of the World,'' and I got to sing the theme song for the drama Sekachu, ``Katachi Aru Mono.'' Even though they were based on the same original story. , they have different actors and productions, so I tried to avoid mentioning ``Close Your Eyes'' as much as possible to avoid mixing up the two works.
This time, I faced this song again ``as an actor and a singer.'' That's how I felt when I wrote the song.
For the other songs, I focused on what I felt intuitively and simply wanted to sing. I chose songs that would make the listeners think, ``Oh, I was in such a production,'' and that would also give them an opportunity to look back on their own time.
In addition, we have arranged the titles in release order because we want people to enjoy each era. Well, of course, I'm ``present'' and sing it with a ``modern'' arrangement, so even though it was released 20 years ago, it has sublimated into a completely new song. I haven't intentionally re-sung any of my own songs, so I hope people can enjoy the period, including the way they sang them."
In December, they will begin their first concert tour in four and a half years.
``'Everything good can become new.'' I want to create an impressive live performance that not only brings back the beauty of the song but also brings back memories of the time, immerses the listener, and is stimulating. We would like to create a performance that travels through time and space, ``present, past, and future.''
Whether you've ever been to Kou Shibasaki's LIVE or not, I think the lineup and structure of the songs will be easy for everyone to enjoy this time. We want to create a LIVE space that makes you want to walk forward while thinking about your own life, so please come and visit us! ”
